Multiple Firings with Bottle Glass
One of the tricky things about working with bottle glass is knowing how many times you can fire it. While there is probably some variation with color/factory, here is the basic guide that I use to make my projects.
Bottle glass can be fired up to 3 times:
Firing 1: Flattening bottles into sheet glass
Firing 2: Fusing
Firing 3: Slumping
As you fire bottle glass more and more times, it will become increasingly stiff and harder to work with, not to mention increase the chance of devitrification. Try to plan your projects to use the LEAST number of firings possible.
And, don't forget, bottle glass is coming to you from various sources, so not all bottles will work exactly the same.
Thanks for reading!
