Finishing Sawn Bottle Edges
I've been seeing a ton of really cute recycled bottle planters on Pinterest lately, and thought it would be fun to make some. I'm not really a fan of intensive cold work, so I came up with this solution which will save a ton of time.
After you saw a bottle, file off the rough edges with a diamond file under water, this will take just a minute.
Then, using a weather/water resistant resin, coat the edge of the bottle. It only takes a bit.
I use EasyCast, but you can use any durable brand. Follow the directions carefully and dab on the sawn edge of the bottle.
The resulting edge is rounded, smooth and slick. Do keep in mind this is only for non food bearing items!
I haven't tried this on a bottle cut with the thermal shock method, if anyone tries it, let me know how it works out.
And, if you are asking yourself, why would you want to know this, and what would you use it for, you can look at this new tutorial for a Square Recycled Bottle Planter and get an idea of when it can come in handy.
