Fusing Loops in Bottle Bottoms.

Earlier this week, Linda T. sent me a question that started me thinking.  She needed to be able to attach fused bottle bottoms to a frame and didn't want to drill holes.  It seemed to me there must be some way to fuse in brass loops without a lot of additional work.  Turns out it's pretty easy.

Start with a bottle bottom, I'm using a champagne bottle and the leaf bottle bottom fusing mold (you could just fuse it flat though).  I've glued brass loops on where I want them.

About brass loops; you can make your own or buy them if you don't want to bother making them.  This would also work with Nichrome loops if you like that better.

Next, add a cut ring from the same bottle on top of the loops.  If you're using a saw to cut the bottles, this is easy, cut off the bottom, then cut off one ring and keep the bottom and ring together.  If you can't cut a ring, try using small rectangles of glass from the same bottle glued over the brass loops.

Here's what it looks like from the side:

Now fuse:

And this is what it looks like from the front:

And here is an idea for what to do with it next:

And in other exciting news, you can use this same trick with any of the new bottle bottom fusing molds on my website.  To celebrate, mold orders have flat $5.95 priority mail shipping for the entire order.  (some restrictions apply, check out the product listings for details.)
